Bole toh Mumbai street food at its best @ Bombay Times - Meena Bazar
I was invited by the owners of Bombay Times Mr. Susheel and his wife and would love to share my experience with my followers on just4tastebuds.
Located in the bylanes of the always buzzing Meena bazar just behind Emirates NBD is the Bombay Times Restaurant. On my arrival, I was attended to by Mr. Santosh who was the one who looked after the orders and took time to explain to me about each and every dish he served me and made sure I wasn't kept waiting. I must say he was really very energetic and enthusiastic about us ordering the dishes and providing us with his experiences of Mumbai street food. He struck a chord with me right from the start as Santosh hails from Udupi and although I come from Mangalore I have spent some of my years in Mumbai.
So let my taste buds take you through the Bombay Times journey
Pani Puri: Santosh took us to the Pani puri counter to start with the first item we ordered and Mr. Ram Chandar the gentleman making pani puri served us with 2 varieties of pani puri, one being the cold variety of "Boondi Pani puri" with moong and chana filled with cold pani puri green pudina pani and tamarind chutney. The other varient was of what we in Mumbai called "Ragda" filled hot in the puri with the tamarind chutney and pudina water. I had the "ragda pani puri" for the first time and loved it ❤️❤️❤️❤️. The puri's are made in the Bombay times kitchen and not readymade. I must say that they don't turn soggy or break till it is actually in your mouth. So when you bite into the pani puri , you really get to experience the crunch and the burst of flavors.
Masala Paav - I would like to call the Masala Paav as an elevated Pav Bhaji but they both are very different in taste. The Masala Paav is basically Bread generously topped with a Masala. i.e a good blend of tomato, capsicum, onion, spices, and vegetables. It's not as fine as the pav bhaji but I would go back every time for the masala paav.
Chatpata Samosa grill sandwich: The grilled sandwich is basically a grilled club sandwich with samosa topped with shavings of cheese and a slight twist to the otherwise normal grilled sandwich.
Jini dosa: The Jini dosa is one of the fast moving items on the menu for Bombay times, Its a dosa divided into 4 pieces and generously topped with cheese. When I say generous I really mean it. the filling of the Jini dosa is more like a masala filing with capsicum's chopped pieces that add a slight crunch to the soft texture of the dosa. The Jini dosa is served with a green and red chutney. Visually it's very appealing to the eye and doesn't disappoint on taste.
Tea - I tried the Masala tea and the zafraan tea and love it cause it wasn't very sweet nor too milky just perfect and I would recommend the Zafran Tea.
Kesar Lassi- The lassi was thick and I could taste the kesar, there was no ice in it hence tasted better.
All your meals the butter and cheese are only Amul and no other brand so that the taste isn't compromised.

The best thing about Bombay times is that they get the basics right be it the Pani Puri, Pav Bhaji or as simple as a cup of tea.
