Aam Aadmi having an Aam-azing spread at Moombai &Co. Dubai

Thanks to my friend Ashish I got the privilege of trying out the "Aam-azing Menu" first hand just before the release of their new additions to the menu at  Moombai & Co  located at H hotel on Sheikh Zayed road near trade center.

It was raining Mangoes at the tasting , mango was either a core ingredient or used as sides in every dish right from the welcome drink to the desserts. It was indeed a memorable experience for me as I have never tried something like this before. I have seen a show called “Iron Chef America” competition on TV, where there is secret ingredient and the competing chefs need to use that secret ingredient  in all their dishes.

The chefs at Moombai & Co. tried their best to incorporate the mango in all the dishes and most of it tasted great but when you have one ingredient in all the course of meals then it becomes pretty overwhelming for your taste buds. If you try 1 or 2 items from the menu with mango as core ingredient then you will appreciate it more and I am certain that if you try it this way you will enjoy it.

Drinks:
Aam Panna – A drink made with raw mangoes hence the green color. I recommend this drink as it helps to combat the heat and its very refreshing. The drink had a chaat masala sort of ingredient along with sugar or jaggery. The drink does have some medical benefits as well,  I guess it cools the system and increases digestion. Just realized I had 3 servings!!!!!!!!

Alphonso Lassi -  A thick and creamy yogurt drink with ripe Alphonso Mangoes, the sweetness in the lassi was elevated with the use of jaggery which retained the flavor of mango in the drink.

Appetizers:
Kairi Karari Bhindi (okra) –  The Bhindi or Okra was very crispy and tangy at the same time as they used the raw mango in it , the dip was made with raw mangoes and green chilly which added to the flavor. It was served in a cone shaped serving holders which was very appealing to the eyes.

Mango Chicken Tikka – It was something very different as the chicken Tikka looked like the regular chicken tikka however this one had a mango twist to it. The Chicken was well marinated hence was very tender and juicy, the dip provided was a mango chutney. The portions of the chutney served were quite large and it complemented the chicken very well.

Main course :
Raw Mango & Coconuts Prawns Curry with rice in a mud pot : The big prawns were lined up perfectly in the middle of the oval shaped plate ready to be devoured by me in a bite. They were neatly covered with grated tangy green mangoes which looked like spaghetti pasta. The coconut based curry was yummy and reminded me of my hometown Mangalore. The curry blended very well with the rice, did try to dip the naan in the curry and test the combination but trust me it’s perfect for rice and NOT ROTI.

Kairi Ki Dal: This was another good combination where the raw mango was used as an alternate to tomatoes which gave it a distinct tangy flavor, I dipped bits of roti in it and later tried it with rice as well. I loved the tanginess of the mango in the dal.

Aamras Puri :It’s a combination of tiny puffed Puri's with pureed mango pulp and some masala for flavor. It was thick , creamy and tasty. Although i'm not sure if it fits into the main course or desserts but it does taste good.

Desserts:
Mango Tart with Ice Cream: This was the first time I tasted raw and ripe mango incorporated into one dessert. The tart itself looked very filling as the portions were big and there were 2 slices of semi ripe  mangoes served with vanilla ice cream. The tart tasted great and the raw mango was quite tangy but it was perfect when I mixed it with Ice cream.

Mango Basundi: It tasted good and looked like a thick custard made from milk and mangoes. It has a good consistency and jaggery was used to make it sweeter. Vark "a silver edible foil like paper" was  used for garnish along with some nuts.

Overall a great experience ,definitely worth the try, this menu is seasonal. Hence you will need to visit the place soon before the Mango season passes away, as the items I have mentioned  in this review are prepared using the King of fruits, the flavorful and Majestic “Alphonso” who waits for no one …

Ambiance : very appealing , current , fancy and the decor is done with Mumbai in mind. The walls have a bunch of frames with dialogues and images of Bollywood memories. The famous dialogue of Rajesh Khanna “Pushpa,  I hate tears" was there , but Pushpa was missing in the picture !!!! they are licensed to serve alcohol and sheesha and there is outdoor seating as well . It’s a good place to catch up with friends and family as its easily accessible.

Customer service: It  feels great when you enter this place, the manger was very welcoming and greeted us with a pleasant smile and escorted us to the table. The staff was courteous and kept attending to us at regular intervals to ensure we had all that we needed. They were aware of all the dishes served and also gave a detailed description of all the dishes as and when I asked them a few questions about the dishes.

Cards & Cash : are accepted

Parking: Valet Parking is available
Sheesha and Alcohol drinks: Yes
